2008
Special Edition Yamaha Rhino 700 review:
I finally got to try my friend Josh's 2008 Rhino SE 700
with Fuel Injection. It was awesome. The true top speed
out of the box is 42 mph (Electronically governed
by the stock CDI) It spun the tires all the way up. The
plastics and fender flairs look awesome, the roof is way
more wrapped around the roll cage and it had 4 wheel disk
brakes and a car style e-brake handle. The suspension was
excellent and handled the added power of the 700 at any
speed. The ride seemed much quieter then my 450, maybe
due to the intake being relocated away from the passenger
compartment. More to come. |

Rhino
Review in SideXSide Action Mag Twice:
We took some pictures, Sent them in to Side X Side,
and I won a Rhino Xenon HID headlight upgrade for the tree
climb picture. The next month a scene from the Rhino Review
Video was featured in the same "reader photo" section.
We were all really happy.
Dear Side X Side, My name is not Raul and I didn't say
any of that stuff under my picture. You did send the prize
to the right person. So that's cool. Thanks. |

2007
Special Edition Yamaha Rhino 450 review:
The Rhino 660 was the first in the Yamaha Side by Side
line-up then came the Rhino 450 for a couple grand cheaper.
I decided on the 450.
The 450 Special Edition I purchased came with 12" aluminum
Rhino rims, blue plastics, sport steering wheel, gray seats,
glove compartment, and the digital dash not found on the
standard 450. There are way to many standard features to
list here so check out Yamaha's
website. To my disappointment there there was no roof
on it, that was $287.00 extra. The head rests are …more. |

2007
Yamaha Rhino 450 Dynatek CDI upgrade:
I just swapped out my stock Rhino CDI for this Dynatek
450 CDI. It was easy to install and made the Rhino accelerate
slightly faster. It seemed like it sounds better now
also. The top speed limiter was removed making my Rhino
have a top speed of 41 MPH on the street. It could hit
37 MPH before with my 26" tires. The annoying popping
at top speed is gone and it revs all the way up to 9000
RPMs over the stock 7400 RPMs .
I expected it to go way faster
with this $200 upgrade but I got a ...more. |

Rhino
safety/Rhino Rollover:
Yes, they roll over easy if you are not careful.
Please read the owners
manual and read all the warnings
before your ride. In this picture my friend drove around
in a circle until it flipped. It was not hard.
I flipped my 2007 450 the 3rd time I rode it. I was
in 4 wheel drive going around a turn at low speed and
the passenger side front wheel climbed up some bamboo
and it flipped over on its side. Lucky my passenger and
I …more. |

Custom
Rhino neon dome/ambiance light:
You can't see anything in your Rhino cab at night
so I made this custom neon dome light, switch and bracket.
This is really a cool way to spice up your Rhino and get
some use out of it. It can be switched to go to the beat
of the music which is really cool when all of our Rhino's
are lined up and the music is blasting. I have left it
on for hours with the engine off and the battery was still
ok. I sometimes even drive with it on. My friend put one
under his hood to light his winch at night. You cant see
your winch with the headlights in your face. A dome light
is totally necessary if you ride at night or even have
your Rhino parked. Who wants to dig up a flashlight to
look for stuff in your Rhino at 40 MPH.
The Install: It took about an hour to install
the light and the switch. You can get one that plugs
into the cigarette lighter if you don't feel like drilling
and wiring anything up. |

14" ITP
SS wheels & Terra Cross tire upgrade:
Product Description: In 2007 ITP introduced the
all new SS alloy wheel line. Manufactured through ITP's
high-tech Advance cast process the 14" 6-spoke SS112
not only bring a new level of sophisticated good looks
to my Rhino, they are the strongest and lightest one-piece
aluminum wheels on the market today. SS Alloys are so
durable they have a lifetime structural warranty: if
you bend or break it, ITP will replace it! The bolt pattern
is 4/110. The rims I purchased are bright diamond cut
machined finish with black accents. Show quality chrome
is also available...more

Rhino
Viper 3000 Winch Review:
Product Description: This winch
is marketed as fully waterproof and has a free spool
option. It came with 12V DC 1.1 hp motor, 4-way roller
fairlead, wired remote, 4 bolt ATV winch mount,
4 ton snatch block, extra cable and all the mounting hardware
needed. Both cables included are made from 50 ft. long
15/64" heavy gauge wire.
The Install: Some electrical
modifications and wire splicing needed, but the mechanical
part was easy. It took about 2 hours for everything to be
installed, 3 if your picky. I threw some hooks on the winch
plate from the hardware store to hook tow ropes to when
the winch is not necessary.
Usage: I winched
myself out of the mud the first 15 minutes I was riding.
Just throw the hook to another rider in a safe area and
press the button and your Rhino is pulls to safety (with
the motor running). So far the Viper 3000 winch has been
great for pulling stuck Rhinos out of the mud. I was
even able to winch my 4000 pound car up my driveway with
ease. There are some safety precautions so read the owners
manual.
The Deal: I think if you
have a Rhino you should have a winch. It will save
your ass or help you save someone else's ass. Don't
get less than 3000 lbs. Get the strongest one you can
afford and make sure you get a wired or wireless remote
so you don't have to sit in your Rhino to control the
winch. It's safer and cool too. You need this.
Update: The winch the wired
remote cable split and had
exposed wires after mild use. The connections inside
the wired remote are all bent and don't connect after
connecting it a bunch of times. You now have to wiggle
it to work. The wired winch remote that comes with
the Gorilla winches is way stronger and better quality
and has a better connection.
Update: A 3000 lb. is good for a Rhino, a 4000+
winch is better. Get the most weight pulling one you
can afford.
Update: Emailed the manufacturer Moto
Alliance and asked
if they could send me a bolt because one was missing
from the package when I bought the winch. They never responded.
Update: After months of heavy use the winch
has lost most of its power and can not winch a Rhino
out of the mud anymore without the use of a snatch block.
The drum has become loose and the free spool feature
will not unlatch. It now makes a great tow rope.
The Verdict: Some winches don't last that long
under heavy use. The last thing you want is for your
winch to fail when someone is hurt and time is ticking.
I only recommend quality winches for UTVs. A hundred
dollars more is worth the extra reliability and power.
We have been using a Gorilla 3500 lb winch and it seems
to be working great so far. It came with a sweet towing
bag with lots of goodies.

Yamaha Rhino
6000K H.I.D.
Xenon headlight upgrade
These headlights are awesome. Not only are they 4X brighter
then the stock dim stock headlights, they also use less
power to run. 35W per bulb, compared to the stock 55W
filament bulbs. The 6000K bulbs project light close to
natural sunlight making your path super bright.
These lights will last the lifetime of your Rhino the
bulb has no filament to break out, they are lit with
an arc of light.
Color Temperature is a measurement in Degrees Kelvin
(K) that indicates the hue of light source. Not how bright
the light is. Different color temps are available 3000K
on up to 100000K. The 4300K kit is the
brightest anything higher lowers the light output. The
output is very white on the 6000K light that I have.
The stock light output is about 700lm, compared the the
2700lm of the HID kit. That's a big increase in light.
The bulbs in my 2007 Rhino 450 are H6M and they were
easy enough to remove and slap in the new H6M HID Xenon
bulbs with OEM like springs. I had to cut the headlight
boots and silicone them to put the connectors on the
bulb wiring through. I mounted the ballasts with the
ballast treys that were included to the frame.
I am so happy with these. This is the first upgrade you
should do if you ever ride at night. They just fit right
in to the stock headlights. It's great.
Note: There are no high beams on the Rhino Xenon
headlights. They are so bright you don't need any other
setting. When you switch it to high beams that switches
on just the tail lights.

Beware Yamaha Financing: When you get
financed through Yamaha, you are putting $12,000.00 on
a Yamaha (HSBC Finance Corp.) credit card at a seemingly low
introductory rate. This rate will jump to 22% or more in 2
years. it will take about 15 years to pay the Rhino off paying
the low $75.00- $149.00 a month payment. The interest alone
is about $75.00 a month. If you are not perfect on the payments
the interest rate can blow up and make the minimum monthly
payments go up unexpectedly.
Just be smart and put a large
down payment or
buy your Rhino in cash if you can afford it. If not financing
it will cost you thousands over sticker price. Adding bullshit
warranties for thousands of dollars to the top of your payment
is not necessary in my opinion. If it breaks just pay to fix
it when it happens. A warranty is like paying for something
to break before it breaks.
Beware Western Service Contract Extended Warranty: Long
story short. My 2007 Rhino's belt broke going top speed. The belt
breaking at this speed bound up in the clutch area and bent the primary
shaft. (very very rare) My $700.00 Western Service Contract non-Yamaha
warranty declined the $1600.00 bill and so did OEM Yamaha Warranty
because it expired after six months and this happened 8 months after
purchase. I had to take my Rhino to 2 Yamaha dealerships for the
runaround. Thousand Oaks Yamaha was rude and wouldn't even fix it.
It took them 3 weeks to just tell me that. I had to take it to Hollywood
Yamaha where I bought the Rhino and they fixed it. The insurance
adjuster said I was pulling out tree stumps. I never pulled out a
tree stump with my Rhino. I would use one of the 5 tractors we have
for that. They were polite during this whole 2 month event. I will
never purchase any of their services in the future and do not recommend
it to my readers. |
